West Confederate Avenue Part 1

West Confederate Avenue begins as a continuation of Seminary Avenue south of where West Middle Street turns into Fairfield Road on the west side of Gettysburg. It is one way southbound after you pass the McMillan house.

The road that is now West Confederate Avenue did not exist at the time of the battle, but was added by the War Department around the turn of the century. It follows the crest of Seminary Ridge, the starting point for many of the Confederate infantry assaults on July 2 and 3, and the positiion of many Confederate artillery batteries.
