Stone Sentinels, battlefield monuments of the American Civil War

North Confederate Avenue (Oak Hill)

Interactive map of monuments and markers on Oak Hill on the Civil War battlefield of Gettysburg

Crossing Mummasburg Road, Buford Avenue turns into North Confederate Avenue and continues on to the summit of Oak Hill, the third highest point on the battlefield at a little over 640 feet (Big and Little Round Top are taller) and the Eternal Light Peace Memorial.

The hill was the staging area for attacks by a number of Confederate brigades from Doles' Division, and served as an ideal artillery platform for a number of Confederate batteries.

In 1938 the Eternal Light Peace Memorial was dedicated on the 75th Anniversary of the battle.

North Confederate Avenue is one way and must be entered from the west side. A large parking area is available, but can fill during busy periods.
