Hancock Avenue Part 3 |
Hancock Avenue continues one-way north from Pleasonton Avenue past The Angle. Monuments are thick here, where Pickett's Charge was halted in brutal hand-to-hand fighting. Most are to Union units and generals, but in the midst of the Angle lies the monument to Confederate General Lewis Armistead, and at the Copse of Trees is the High Water Mark, honoring the units that participated on both sides. |
This can be one of the most crowded areas of the park, particularly in the afternoons when tour busses cluster thickly and lines of cars listening to in-car tours try to find a place to stop out of the traffic flow. Parking is allowed only on one side of Hancock Avenue and can be an issue. |
