Named in honor of Major General Winfield Scott Hancock, whose Second Army Corps fought all along the length of the avenue, Hancock Avenue begins as a continuation of Sedgwick Avenue north of United States Avenue, and is one-way northbound. Its southern section is lined with a Union monuments and markers, including several to the artillery batteries who defended this part of the Union line.
The view west is across the open expanse of fields that saw heavy fighting on both July 2nd and 3rd. |
