Big Round Top Tour

After Confederate Avenue curves east and passes the Right Flank Marker of the Army of Northern Virginia all the monuments and markers are Union. Many of them are some distance from the road, and several require a serious climb to reach. The highest of these are at the summit of Big Round Top, at 785 feet the highest point on the battlefield and almost 250 feet above Plum Run valley - but completely covered by trees, so there is no view!

The right flank of the Confederate attack on July 2nd roughly followed this route to Little Round Top, and it was the scene of Union counterattacks at the end of the day on July 2nd and into July 3rd.

South Confederate Avenue is one-way eastbound, and becomes Sykes Avenue just before it intersects with Warren, Wright and Sykes Avenues. Wright Avenue heads southeast to Taneytown Road, Warren Avenue heads northwest to the Devils Den, and Sykes Avenue continues one-way north to Little Round Top.
