Black Horse Tavern

From the marker:

The Black Horse Tavern

At the time of the battle of Gettysburg this was the name of the tavern kept in this stone house which was built in 1813 and in a large log house of much older date then adjoining.

The tavern was owned by and was on the farm of Francis Bream. Bream was the wealthiest landowner in Adams County, and lived in the structure with his wife Elizabeth and eight other family members.

On July 1st, The Confederate division of Lafayette McLaws camped in the vicinity.
