Pennsylvania at the Battle of Gettysburg

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provided over 323,000 men to the Union Army during the Civil War, the second largest total of any state. More than 23,000 Pennsylvanians were at Gettysburg, over a fourth of the Army of the Potomac.

 

The comanding general of the Army of the Potomac, Major General George Meade, and two of its eight corps commanders, Major General John Reynolds and Major General Winfield Hancock, were Pennsylvanians.
