77th New York Infantry Regiment
"Bemis Heights Battalion "
The monument to the 77th New York Infantry Regiment is south of Gettysburg on Powers Hill. (see map) It was dedicated by the State of New York in 1889.
The 77th New York was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Lieutenant Colonel Winsor B. French. It brought 424 men to the field and had no casualties, as it was providing support to artillery positioned behind Union lines.
