The monument to the Sixty Sixth New York Infantry Regiment is south of Gettysburg on Sickles Avenue. see map It was dedicated in 1889 by the State of New York.

The reverse of the monument is a bronze tablet showing a Union soldier sharing his canteen with a wounded Confederate, titled "Peace and unity."

The regiment was commanded by Colonel Orlando H. Morris until he was wounded while carrying the colors on July 2nd. Lieutenant Colonel John S. Hammell then took command until he, too was wounded. Major Peter A. Nelson then took over the regiment.

The 66th brought 176 men to the field.
