First Michigan Infantry Regiment

The monument to the First Michigan Infantry Regiment is south of Gettysburg on Sickles Avenue.

The First Michigan was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Colonel Ira C. Abbott. He was wounded on July 2nd, and Lieutenant Colonel William A. Throop then took command, despite also being wounded.
