3rd Maine Infantry Regiment

A monument to the Third Maine Infantry is south of Gettysburg in in the Peach Orchard (top right), and markers are on Hancock Avenue across from the Copse of Trees (center right) and Berdan Avenue (bottom left). (see map)

The 3rd Maine was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Colonel Moses B. Lakeman. Lakeman took over the brigade on July 3rd, and Captain William C. Morgan took command of the regiment.
