9th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment

The monument to the Ninth Massachusetts Infantry is south of Gettysburg on Sykes Avenue at the northern foot of Big Round Top. (See map) It was dedicated in 1885 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The regiment was commanded by Colonel Patrick R. Guiney. It brought 474 men to the field.

from Boston, Salem, Milford,
Marlboro and Stoughton,
and organized at Boston
May 9, 1861. Mustered
into the United States
Volunteer Service
June 11, 1861.
Mustered out at Boston
June 21, 1864.
Commanded respectively by
Colonel Thomas Cass and
Colonel Patrick R. Guiney.

From the rear:
