3rd Massachusetts Battery US Flag
(Battery C, Massachusetts Light Artillery)

The monument to the Third Massachusetts Battery is south of Gettysburg on Wheatfield Road. A marker is also on Wright Avenue. (see map)

The battery was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Lieutenant Aaron Francis Walcott. It brought 124 men to the field.

The monument carries the symbols of both the artillery branch of service and the Maltese Cross of the Union Fifth Army Corps.

July 3. At 3 a.m. moved to and occupied this position until the close of the battle.
