82nd Illinois Infantry Regiment
The monument to the 82nd Illinois Infantry Regimentis north of Gettysburg on Howard Avenue just west of Carlisle Road. The monument was erected in 1891 by the State of Illinois.

The regiment was commanded at Gettysburg by Lieutenant Colonel Edward Salomon, a Chicago lawyer. It brought 347 men to the battle, of whom 4 were killed, 19 wounded, and 89 missing.
Captain Emil Frey of H company, captured at Gettysburg, went on to become the first Swiss Ambassador to the United States and President of the Swiss Confederation.
