Illinois at Gettysburg

Although Illinois sent 239 regiments and batteries into the Union army, almost all of them served in the western theater. Illinois was represented at Gettysburg by one cavalry and one infantry regiment and five companies of a second cavalry regiment, around a thousand men. About 140 became casualties.
